Speak like a Roulette Expert
Believe it or not, you can make others believe that you are already an expert at roulette just by speaking in the roulette tongue. So next time you talk to your colleagues about roulette, use some of these roulette terms:
Inside bet - betting on one of the numbers found on the center of the game layout.
La partage - a special rule for the European roulette. This is just like the en prison rule, but in this case, the player loses half of the bet when zero shows. The player now needs to place new bets.
Layout - the space found on the roulette table bearing the same numbers in the roulette wheel. It also has spaces for other bets.
Low bet - betting that one of the numbers from 1-18 will hit in the next round. It is called as such because 1-18 are the lowest numbers in the roulette wheel, aside from zero.
Low Roller - slang for a roulette player who only bets in small amounts. Consequently, he also wins small amounts, so his progress is slower than those of the aggressive ones.
Manque - How do you say low roller in a classy way? Then refer to it as manqué, which is the French word for someone who makes small bets.
Mark - what we call a player who is a target of cheaters. Usually, he is someone who appears gullible - someone who kind of walks with a mark on his back saying "cheat me".
Marker - when a roulette player runs out of cash in a casino, he can use a marker instead. A marker is a check that the player signs before playing on credit. It is the proof that a certain player has borrowed money from the casino and that he will pay in the future.
Money at risk - the amount of money the roulette player has placed on bet. It is at risk because no one can be sure if that player will win or not. There's always the possibility of losing.
Money management - this is the roulette player's process of budgeting his gambling money. Experts say that success in gambling depends largely on money management. Therefore, roulette players should be wise in spending their money in games.
Money Plays - term for situation in which a roulette player is using money to bet and not the casino chips.
Mucker - a cheating roulette player who employs hand tricks to gain unfair advantage over the others. In roulette, muckers cheat the house by adding more chips after the winning number has already been determined. As a result, they would win more than they should.
