Roulette for Newbies
Roulette is a social game and is slower to play than other casino games like blackjack. Unlike in blackjack where the chip's value is already known, it is the dealer who determines the value of the roulette chips. Roulette chips have no distinguishing marks, only colors. The tables in roulette have their own chips so that the dealer can differentiate the players at the table. Each roulette player is assigned his own color to distinguish him from the other players at the table.
The dealer places a "lammer" on top of a stack of chips to indicate the total value of the stack. If a stack of ten blue chips has $50 printed on it, the total value of the stack is $50 with each chip worth $5.
Once you have your chips and you are ready to play, you can now place your bets. There are two types of bets in roulette. These are the inside bets, which can be placed on the inside portion of the roulette table, and the outside bets, which take place on the outside area.
To play in a real-world roulette game (as opposed to online roulette), wait until the previous session ends and the dealer says, "Place your bets!" You then take a number of chips and place them on the table. You can place your chips either on the outside or the outside, depending on the type of bet you choose. If the table minimum is $10, you can place only one $10 outside bet or 10 inside bets of $1 each. If you decide to make inside bets, you put your chips at the center of the table and ask the dealer to place the numbers you want on the amounts you want to win. You can also bet on either the outcome being red or black, or on even or odd numbers.
The dealer then proceeds to spin the ball. At this point while the ball is still spinning, you can still place your bets until the dealer says, "No more bets!" When the ball comes to rest, the dealer places a marker on top of the winning inside bet, clears the table and pays off the winners.
In online roulette, you need not worry about the dealer as well as other hassles and distractions. You don't even have to worry about betting too late or accidentally under-betting on the inside bets. The beauty of online roulette is that it allows you to play the game without compromising your bankroll. You have the option to play roulette for free for as long as you want, until you are ready to play "real money" roulette.
Roulette, whether it is played in land-based casinos or in the Internet, is an enjoyable, entertaining game, making it very popular with many people. Have fun!
